How does Invisalign® work?
Invisalign® works by using a series of clear, custom-made aligners that gently move your teeth into the desired position. You will wear each aligner for about two weeks before moving on to the next one in the series. Over time, your teeth will gradually shift into place.
How can Invisalign® improve the smile?
Invisalign® can improve the smile by straightening teeth, reducing oral health risks, improving bite alignment, and reducing crowding.
- Straightening teeth. The primary goal of Invisalign® is to straighten the teeth for a more aesthetic appearance of the smile.
- Reducing oral health risks. When the teeth are in proper alignment, they are easier to keep clean with brushing and flossing, reducing one’s risk of developing tooth decay and periodontal disease with proper care.
- Improving bite alignment. Crossbites, underbites, and overbites can all be addressed with Invisalign® orthodontics, eliminating the need for traditional braces in many cases.
- Reducing crowding. When overcrowding is an issue, the dental team may suggest the permanent removal of one or more teeth before undergoing Invisalign® to line the teeth up into a proper dental arch.
Am I a candidate for Invisalign®?
Most people are candidates for Invisalign®. However, there are a few exceptions. For example, if you have a severe case of misaligned teeth or you need extensive orthodontic work, Invisalign® may not be the best option for you. Your dentist will be able to determine if Invisalign® is right for you.
