Don’t bring your teacher an apple if you want to get on his good side! In a recent survey of 458 dentists, hygienists and dental professionals, a third of participants identified apples as a major cause of damage to teeth and gums.
One of the factors might be the increased popularity of sweeter apples such as the sugar Pink Lady, which replace traditional choices such as the Cox and Granny Smith.
Equally damaging to teeth are acidic fruits, which are particularly damaging when people suck on them. Experts also warn that fruit juice is a key cause of tooth and gum problems.
