Michael returned to our office after 12 years where he did not receive any dental care. During that time, he experienced severe tooth loss. He wanted to improve the aesthetics of his smile and was concerned about protecting his teeth from further damage. We took x-rays to make sure none of the teeth had infections and photos and a digital scan which can be seen below.
Our laboratory technicians then design the crowns on their design software and mill temporary crowns out of temporary plastic material.
Michael came back about two weeks later. Twelve teeth were prepared (i.e.- drilled) and the lab temporary was relined and cemented temporarily. A scan was taken of the prepared teeth for the technicians to design and manufacture the porcelain crowns.
The above picture was taken at the end of the appointment just after the temporary was placed. We confirm that the shape and color are satisfactory.
Our technicians then design the porcelain restorations based on the feedback they receive from the
patient and doctor.
The porcelain crowns are milled out of Zirconia discs, sintered, and glazed.
The patient returns to the office and the restorations are fit and cemented.
Below are the final crowns which have been permanently cemented.
The entire process took three visits. The first visit was half an hour to take images and determine the patients needs. The second visit was less than four hours where the teeth were prepared and imaged, and temporaries were relined and cemented. The third visit was about three hours, and the crowns were fit and cemented. Michael returned a couple of weeks later for 15 minutes where we confirmed that all the cement had been removed and that he was comfortable.
