Air abrasion is primarily used to remove tooth decay, without the use of drills. In this procedure, a fine stream of air and powder mix is gently sprayed accurately at the decay, where it is removed, leaving only healthy tooth structure intact. Compared to cavities prepared using the conventional dental drill, this means the smallest possible restorations and stronger teeth.
Air abrasion also prepares the tooth’s enamel surface to allow for a stronger and longer-lasting bonding to porcelain as well as restorative materials. In addition, it effeciently removes unsightly stains on teeth. It's quick and simple, and allows us to treat multiple teeth in one visit.
